Friday May 6 Went on picket last night, came of at eight tonight. Mosquitos very thick, weather warm. Saturday May 7Went over to Folly this fore noon. Came back, got my dinner, and went back at five again. The rebbs fired two or three shots at our picket.
Sunday May 8In camp all day. The rebbs fired at our picket again today. We have inspection of arms at three oclock.
Monday May 9Went over to Folly, got back at 12 oclock. Went on picket at seven at night.
Tuesday May 10On picket all day. Mosquitos very bad. Our men sent a few shells into Gains Island. They fired from Leong and Folly and Mores Islands.
Wednesday May 11Our men threw a few shells into secessions will last night but they did not answer it. Been over to Folly today. Weather looks like rain, wind bad and sand flies.
Thursday May 12In camp all day. Weather warm and pleasant. On picket at seven. Looks a little like rain.
Friday May 13On picket. Rained very hard in the night. Mosquitos and flies bite hard. Weather warm and pleasant today. Received a letter from E. B. Hanson.

Sunday May 15Got our tent up. Received a letter from home and from Dick Sutherland and C. Stage. Weather warm and pleasant.

Saturday May 21Today myself and four men moved up to the south end of Leong Island. We are detailed in Co. H to do picket. We got here and got our tent up at three oclock.
Sunday May 22We fell in at three oclock. Crossed the river at about half an hour then started for James Island. We had a little skirmish with the rebbs, it lasted about an hour then we went away.
Monday May 23We got home about half past six last night. In camp all night.
Tuesday May 24In camp all day, on picket at night. Our men put the shell and the shot into the -- ?
Wednesday May 25In camp all day. Tameraux was up to see me today. Weather warm.
Thursday May 26We got marching orders last night. We took our tents down and packed up our things. Went to Folly Island. We are now on the west end of Folly.
Friday May 27We moved our camp today. The betts came back. Weather warm and pleasant. We put our tents on the ground for the present. Received a letter from home and from Mavana.
Saturday May 28In camp all day. On fatigue a little while. Weather warm. We have not raised out tents yet.
Sunday May 29We had a very hard rain last night. Dress parade and an inspection. After inspection I went on camp guard.
Monday May 30Came off camp guard this morning. Weather warm. Very fine weather but pretty deep sand.
Tuesday May 31Went over to Leong Island after a load of boards to fix up our tent. Weather very warm.

Sunday June 26In camp until half past four then went on picket. We had company inspection today. Captain Crosby has got command. Major Morrison has got command of the regiment. Colonel Heryhney? has got command of the post.
Monday June 27On picket all day today until five oclock. The mosquitos bit very hard today, it has been a very hot day. Came home at half past five oclock.
Tuesday June 28In camp all day. Weather hot.
Wednesday June 29In camp all day.
Thursday June 30In camp all day until night. We were mustered for two months pay. We got marching orders at four oclock. We were all in line. We went to Long Island.
Friday July 1We lay on Long Island all night and all day today.
Saturday July 2Last night at ten oclock we left Long Island and went to Tiger Island. We lay there until three then we went to Dames? (James) Island. We drove off the rebbs picket and marched on until we reached their battery. We charged and took it, the we went into rifle pitts in front of Fort James. We lay there all day.
Sunday July 3We got out of the rifle pits at nine oclock. We retreated back to our rifle pitts on the south end of James Island. We stayed there all night. We put our pickets out as soon as we got there. We twice in the night. We lay in the entrenchments all day.
Monday July 4Nothing new on our part of James Island. It is reported that our men charged on Fort Johnson. Last night we lost 20 men killed and taken prisoner. We lay in the entrenchments all day. It is so hot that the men are suffering very much. A good many are sun stroke, a good many have died.
Tuesday July 5There is nothing of import. The rebbs have thrown up some rifle pits but they dont trouble ours. Our gun boats lay in the river on the south side of James Island. They shell the rebb fortifications a good deal.
Wednesday July 6Last night it was quite still. Today I was detailed for ordinance Sergeant of James Island, so I am not with the company anymore. I left James Island and went back to C - - Island.
Thursday July 7Things are quite still. The rebbs dont show themselves much and our men are pretty still. I have done nothing today but sit around and be still.
Friday July 8We were waked today by hard volleys of musket firing on Johns Island. General Hatch, they say, had a hard fight with the rebbs. I have not hear the part. All is quiet along our lines.
Saturday July 9All was still last night. Today our men are at work mounting a large Columbia gun in a fort on Carter? Island. It is a big one to. They have got two 30 pand two 12 p and one ball of two peace on James Island.??
Sunday July 10It was very still last night. Today our men are talking about retreating from James Island. Everybody has got a great deal to say but nobody knows.
Monday July 11Last night our men got everything off James Island and took up the bridge. They are going to leave for good this time. We have orders to get ready to move our - - ammunition day time, we have shipped it to Folly Island. I am in my tent now.
Tuesday July 12In camp all day. Nothing to do but look out for the ammunition.
